Professional Supervision and Support
I provide private individual and group supervision to counsellors and caseworkers.
By way of background, I have been counselling for 25 years. From 2001 to 2009 I provided supervision
to around a dozen counsellors and caseworkers in my role as Manager Counselling Services at Lifeline WA.
I currently supervise several counsellors and caseworkers on an individual basis and provide group supervision to non-government agencies.
My approach is to support the practitioner’s development, ensure duty of care and professional practice protocols
are being observed, and assist the practitioner to identify areas for personal and professional growth. I generally
take a session or two to get to know the practitioner and negotiate the supervision contract.
My supervisees need to be committed to their own learning and willing to reflect openly on their professional practice
and any related personal issues.
It is worth mentioning that I have been a supervisee for most of the past 25 years, receiving supervision from a
cross-section of private and agency based supervisors including Clinical Psychologists, Gestalt Therapists,
Couple & Family Therapists, and line managers (many of whom were experienced clinicians).
This has given me exposure to a wide range of approaches to supervision, a wide variety of supervisory relationships,
as well as an appreciation of agency-related challenges.
I have also trained in a number of different approaches to clinical and casework supervision.
Note: I can provide invoices where a practitioner’s employer agrees to cover the cost of supervision.
Alternatively, I can negotiate a fee in situations where the practitioner is funding the arrangement.
